Career Academy
Career Academy is a program founded on the idea of direct experience as a method of learning. Each summer 12 to 15 students visit up to 18 different industries in order to assess their own personal interests and vocational goals. To date, the LADSE Career Academy has facilitated over 220 different job shadows through the Career Academy. Career Academy runs the month of June and students are referred directly to the program by our LADSE district high schools. The foundation of the program is a vocational evaluation which is completed prior to the program beginning. Job shadows and curriculum are then developed based on these student profiles. Students present this new information to their team at their IEP meeting in the fall. The LADSE Board of Directors, the LADSE Employer Advisory Board, and to our community partners help to make this program a success. Career Academy has been in operation since 2005.
