E-Learning Back to School Social Stories
LADSE has collaborated with member districts and reviewed a number of resources in order to support your child with their return to in-person instruction. We know it can be very challenging for many of our students to adjust to the changes in routine. To assist our students with the new school expectations and changes they may encounter in the classroom, we have prepared the following supports for you to use with your child. Social Stories provide specific information about what to expect in social situations and help to prepare the student in advance for any changes. -Please find the enclosed Social Stories “Back to School” and “Wearing My Mask” to read with your child daily to prepare for the return to school. Visual Supports and Redirection Tools help our students to know exactly what the expectations are and the incentive for following them. -A countdown strip has been provided to assist your child in increasing the amount of time they can keep their mask on. -A reward chart has been provided to help your child understand the new expectation for wearing a mask while working toward a reinforce for following the new rule. A Tip Sheet has been enclosed for parents and caregivers to explore ways to support mask wearing. -A variety of different styles of masks exist to support students with sensory differences and to aid in keeping your student comfortable -Protocols exist to support students in desensitizing if mask wearing continues to be challenging. |
