Coronavirus COVID-19
Executive Director's Letter to Parents
March 13, 2020
Dear LADSE Families,
To safeguard the health and wellness of students, staff, and the community:
ALL LADSE PROGRAMS WILL BE CLOSED FROM MARCH 16 – APRIL 6.
This decision has not been made lightly but is necessary in light of information from local, state and national health agencies regarding social distancing and the support of preventative measures to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus in our community. Similar plans are in place at all LADSE member districts and have been made in collaboration with district superintendents.
There is a great deal of information to share with families and I have done my best to organize the information in an easy to read format. Please know, at this point, we are not aware of any confirmed cases of coronavirus in our schools.
March 16 will be a non-attendance, non-e-learning day for students. Staff will be working on this date to prepare activities and communications for their students.
E-learning will begin on March 17. All LADSE classroom staff will be available for contact via email, Google Chat, or Google Hangouts between the hours of 8:30a and 1:30p daily. Your child’s teacher or therapist will be sharing activities and assignments at home to maintain engagement with learning and reinforce concepts that have been taught. If you do not have access to the internet, please let your child’s teacher/therapist know and alternate arrangements will be made (e.g. delivery of packets to your home via hand delivery or U.S. mail).
E-learning will be suspended over your child’s scheduled spring break and will resume the following Monday (March 30 or April 6).
A tentative return to school has been set for Tuesday, April 7. However please watch for emails and alerts on the LADSE website (www.ladse.org) for updated information.
We recognize that provision of e-learning activities is not the same as the direct instruction and related services recommended on your child’s IEP. The decision to close has been made exclusively to ensure the health and safety of our students.
Regardless, please know that there is no playbook for how to handle a global pandemic and we are doing our best to make decisions that are in the best interest of our students and staff in a very fluid and fast-moving situation. We will continue to be in contact with the Illinois, Cook, and DuPage County Departments of Public Health, as well as our partner school districts and our local villages as we continue to make the best decisions possible.
Sincerely,
Ellie Ambuehl, Ed.D.
Executive Director
