LADSE employs a school nurse consultant who supports district nurses, students, staff, and families.

Identification of Students

Identification is accomplished through a variety of screening programs. Districts conduct preschool screening in the spring of each year for three- to five- year old children. Vision and hearing screening as mandated by the Illinois Department of Public Health is offered to students throughout the year.  An outcome of screening may be identification of students eligible for participation in a vision clinic sponsored by LADSE in conjunction with state health agencies. Another outcome may be referral to an otologic/audiological clinic.

Education and Training

CPR and first aid classes are available in addition to programs on contagious and chronic illnesses, seizures, auto-immune deficiency syndrome, and other health related issues.

Consultation Services

Consultation services are offered to district nurses and to DuPage West Cook Deaf/Hard of Hearing Impaired Program. Coordination between home and school staff is offered when health problems, chronic illness, or major accidents require home visits from the nurse. When necessary, individual health plans and procedures for health impaired students are developed.
