The DuPage/West Cook program for deaf and hard of hearing students provides services to those with hearing disabilities ages birth to twenty-one. Services include diagnostics and evaluation, placement, instruction, student and parent support, technical assistance to local schools, transition, and outreach to the community.

The program serves students with hearing disabilities ranging from mild to profound. Students may have hearing loss as their only disability, or they may have multiple disabilities. Depending on their needs, students can be served in their home school (in a general education setting), in a special class, or in a cluster program.

Geographic Areas

The DuPage/West Cook program currently serves approximately 250 students in several cluster-site programs. Approximately 400 students receive services from itinerant teachers in their home schools. The program employs 48 teachers, 44 interpreters, therapists, and classroom aides.

Criteria for Eligibility

Eligibility for the program is based upon a combination of audiological and educational criteria.
