The DuPage/West Cook program for
deaf and hard of hearing students provides services to those with hearing
disabilities ages birth to twenty-one. Services include diagnostics and
evaluation, placement, instruction, student and parent support, technical
assistance to local schools, transition, and outreach to the community.
The program serves students with
hearing disabilities ranging from mild to profound. Students may have hearing
loss as their only disability, or they may have multiple disabilities.
Depending on their needs, students can be served in their home school (in a
general education setting), in a special class, or in a cluster program.
Geographic Areas
The DuPage/West Cook program
currently serves approximately 250 students in several cluster-site programs.
Approximately 400 students receive services from itinerant teachers in their
home schools. The program employs 48 teachers, 44 interpreters, therapists,
and classroom aides.
Criteria for Eligibility
Eligibility for the program is
based upon a combination of audiological and educational criteria.
