LADSE, in partnership with the local elementary school districts, provides special education preschool classes specifically designed to meet the needs of children between the ages of three and five who have special needs. Students participate in either morning or afternoon classes with enrollment limited to ten per session. Classes meet Monday through Thursday.  All of the ECE classrooms are housed in schools throughout the fourteen elementary districts, and every effort is made to place children in an ECE program in their home school district.

Annual Screening

An annual screening program for three- to five-year old children is held in each of the elementary school districts within LADSE. This screening is used to identify children who may need special services. It includes assessment in the following areas: speech and language, fine and gross motor development, conceptual skills, and social-emotional development.

Evaluation

An evaluation to determine if a child needs early childhood education services may be appropriate if there are concerns about the child’s speech and language development, play skills, behavior or motor skills.
