LADSE is committed to providing a full continuum of special education services within the least restrictive educational environment.  LADSE is committed to a decentralized, building-based model of providing services to students.  This promotes a local commitment to developing a unified educational system to serve all students.

When possible, services are provided in the student's home school district through consultation in the general education classroom or with resources to maximize the student's opportunity to interact with general education peers.  Multi-district classes are available if consultation and resource services do not meet the student's needs.  All multi-district program classes are housed in LADSE member district school buildings.  Placements outside of LADSE districts are available if required to meet the student's unique needs.

In addition to consultation, supports, and direct service, extensive professional development is provided for LADSE and general and special education staff.

Referrals for Service

Parents or educational staff concerned about a child's performance should contact the student's resident public school district to begin the referral process.  Referrals are reviewed by the resident district educational team, who will, if appropriate, contact LADSE.  Parents are important members of the district educational team that will determine the appropriate interventions for the student.
